A STUDY DAY EXPLORING THE ISSUES AROUND PERSONALISATION IN MENTAL HEALTH AND MARGINALISED COMMUNITIES

Personalisation for all?

This national study day will look at the potential impact of personalisation on the ongoing mental health issues faced by different marginalised communities. Personalisation for all? will look at what needs to happen to make personalisation a reality for these marginalised groups, through more appropriate statutory and voluntary sector services, better  commissioning,  advocacy and brokerage and the development of service user led services and support.

Personalisation for all? will look explore personalisation holistically, in terms of the ongoing provision of universal services, prevention and early intervention and the development of social capital, as well as some mechanisms of delivering choice and control like at Personal Budgets/Personal Health Budgets. It will also look at new learning from recent studies involving service users from marginalised groups on personalisation as well as learning to bring on the eve of the launch of Personal Health Budgets.

Whilst Personalisation for all? will primarily address issues for black and minority ethnic communities, lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender people, it will also refer to some of the issues faced by a range of marginalised groups including refugees and asylum seekers and will also be of major relevance to all people with a stake in the mental health personalisation agenda.

This study day is being led by Social Perspectives Network and is being financed by Department of Health with publicity support from Black Health Agency Manchester.
