The National Dementia Strategy Implementation Plan, released in July 2009, identifies investment in prevention, early intervention and community-based support as key to improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of services. Health and social care professionals in both primary and community care are starting to implement these key improvements. However, a year on it is important to understand the challenges that are being faced in delivering these improvements and how they might be overcome.
This practical half-day conference will share learning from innovative projects, with a focus on: prevention and good-quality early diagnosis; developing new care pathways for people with dementia; and creating peer support networks for patients and carers.
Keynote speaker: Ruth Eley, National Programme Lead, Older People and Dementia, Department of Health.
Other speakers include:
Helen Crisp, Senior Advisor, The Health Foundation, on the Health Foundation's work on quality of dementia services.
Dr Ian Greaves, GP, Gnosall Health Centre, on improving early diagnosis and intervention in practice
