Few can doubt that the assessment of risk to others has become a major part of mental health care. Over recent years, it has become increasingly prominent in the media and the mind of the public. Whilst we may consider that such a preoccupation is unhelpful and stigmatising, we cannot deny the massive impact of homicide or violence on victims and their families, the service user, mental health professionals and the wider community.
The aim of this conference is to provide a clearer understanding of the nature of risk and the factors linked to violence necessary for all mental health professionals.
